Welcome to the Child & Family Research Institute (CFRI), a collaboration between the University of British Columbia, BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital & Health Care Centre.
The Institute is dedicated to research spanning a wide range of children’s and women’s health concerns and is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada. Member of the CFRI community are among some of the most respected scientists and trainees in their fields.
At present the institute has more than 300 trainees in programs of study ranging from pathology, reproductive and developmental sciences, medicine and microbiology, to epidemiology, health services research, and nursing. Our trainees benefit from the rich interdisciplinary and collaborative environment the institute provides, because of its physical setting on a hospital campus and the scope of research undertaken here.
The Research Education Office, established at CFRI in the fall of 2002, supports the development of an enriched, multidisciplinary learning environment for our research trainees through its Research Education Program. The Program provides opportunities for trainees to build on the skills and knowledge needed to enhance their health research careers.
Along with the elements inherent to each trainee's program of study, we offer:
- extra-curricular training opportunities to build trainees' research and analytical capacity and enhance their career development skills
- a wide range of special events that exposes trainees to research across disciplines and offers them opportunities to present and discuss their own work
- funding on a competitive basis for studentships and fellowships, subsidize conference participation and short-term training opportunities
